Photo of air box spring
« on: August 04, 2011, 08:01:02 AM »
I did my best (read: hacked) to fab up an air box spring, based on a pic TT had posted. It's not exact, but it should work.

Does anyone have a photo or decent description of how this thing goes into the air box to best hold the filter in place?

Thanks so much.

HA HA! I use a custom piece of cedar shingle wedged in behind the cleaner element. Cut to size it works perfect for now.

I did something similar with a big hose clamp, probably from a mass airflow sensor on a car.  Cut the worm drive end off, bent it up, and called it a day.  If it doesn't move, why worry, right?

I can take pics tonight, but IIRC the rounded bulge goes against the air filter.  The 90 degree bend at the top should rest against the filter housing to keep it from going too far down.

Thanks folks. A pic would be great, but already, the way I have it in there is helping secure it against the front of the air box. Hack job at it's best....when it (sorta) works! :)

I've got a couple of pics for you:

spring in place

and a scan of my spring

Click it to make it full size and then right-click to save it.  If you print it from a photo editing program it should come out full size.  If not, just scale-print-scale-print until the lines are 1/4" apart.

You rock!  Thanks so much.  I had it in there a little weird, but mine came out decent enough, and now with the correct positioning, it should be great.

Really appreciate the pics.

That's the one little piece that would make my bike 100% complete.
