Anything against the BridgestoneSE11 Spitfire tires?
« on: May 08, 2006, 05:30:15 PM »
I found the Spitfires for $131 for the set (including shipping).  Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about these tires?  I am a casual rider on a stock K5.  I want something reasonably safe and reasonably priced.

Thanks

I've heard they are a really good tire.  I went with the BT-45's on mine because I wanted a sport bike pattern.  But alot of people here run the S11's and like them.

Really good price! Wish you had told us your contact before I brought mine. I'm putting on my second set so I musta liked the first. I'm not a knee drag'r so I can't comment on that aspect. Seem to do fine in straight lines and curves. However the darn back one never lasts as long as the front !!?? The white letters look nice.

If you want them (or any tire) to wear well then don't get them too wide for your rims. The stock rims are pretty narrow, about 2 inches or less.
This manufacturer has designed the rears for 2.50 inch rims (2.15 minimum).  A 90 size for your front and the 110 size for the rear will probbably work ok, though.  You'll need wider rims for wider tires.  You'll probably be happy with these.  Don't forget, you'll still need tubes, mounting and balance. A local shop might cut you a sweet deal if you show them competative adds.

The BT 45 19 inch fronts all want a wider rim.  It figures, they're intended for sport bikes with wide rims.  2.50 with a 2.15 minimum.  Same with the 18 inch rears.  You can expect poor center tread wear life with these, I'd bet.  Probably less than ideal handling, too, as they get close to wear limits.

I got the link off of the FAQ page  http://www.americanmototire.com

I hadn't thought of RWL....  I'll have to look for some bikes with the white letters before I place the order.

This was for stock 110-18 on the rear and 100-19 on the front

I just remembered that I forgot the tubes :(

They sell a bunch of different brands so I clicked on the bridgestone link.  They have the exact front tire size listed but not the rear.  Is this close enough or does it need to be exact?

BRIDGESTONE TUBE (ULTRA HEAVY DUTY) 110/100-18

It will be going into a 110/90-18

Is there any reason to not use a different brand of tube?

The 100/100 should do fine, you mostly don't want something too small. The only tube I ever suspected was iffy was from Russia- doesn't seem to hold air as long for some reason. Otherwise- a tube's a tube.

i went with RWL with the silver tank in mind, but it doesn't look bad with the original livery, imho.  hard to keep the rear clean, obviously...

i've been fine with 100 front and 120 rear, but i might scootch down a size next time just to see...

and you did mean S11, right?  there's not a different model out there?

Just put them on my bike. so far so good. Got my from americanmototire.com. Best price I could find. Had the Bridgestone Accolade's  01 and 02. They quit making the front in a 19" and wanting to stay with a Bridgestone tire, I went with the S11's.

I have them on both rims.
They are good and need to be warmed up on a long ride in the cool. They ride reasonably well too.
