rear brake engages itself on potholes

sometimes really bad.Why would that happen?
It's an old KZ440 with a pretty typical mechanical rod setup, no different than my 750K1.. but it'll lock itself on big potholes.

Check your alignment marks on the pivot at the rear.  My guess is it is flipping over center from being misadjusted.

It sure can be.  The system can be adjusted well beyond "worn out" I get my shoes from Cycle recycle 2 in Indianapolis.  He has a web ordering site that is best.
