This morning I decided to check the rod.  It has a massive amount of side-to-side play.  Good thing the crank is not a one piece and the journal and bearings are still available and cheap.

So, I was thinking...the young miss has had the piss rode out of her, she is worn out and very loose.  She now has a nickname that seems very fitting....see sig.

Well, Hooker has been providing me a great education on this stuff.

I have ordered a standard bore piston kit from the UK and I am having a new sleeve made by Advanced Sleeve.

Here is the other thread I started while I was learning about sleeves - http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=94194.0

Now I can focus on some of the other stuff.  This was the most important, the rest I can manage somehow.

Major stress is now relieved.

Went on a small ($$$) spending spree.  I need break form the spending for a bit.

Ordered New OEM from Boats.net;
- Handlebars
- Clutch and Brake Levers
- Clutch and Brake Perches
- Grips
- Throttle Sleeve
- Ring Leaf

I need a brake cable but they say they are obsolete. Boats.net is cheaper then BB.

You are welcome to come over.  It would be good to meet you.

I want to see this thing run again myself.....Badddd.  I remember this buzzsaw running when it was new.  I was amazed.  I almost flipped it backwards a few times going into 3rd.

Good place for repro decals for old dirt bikes...maybe you already know them...but it's worth mentioning in case you didn't know.

That's a neat site. I don't know if I have been there or not.

They didn't have anything for the bike that I need. You would be surprised at what is not available for the YZ50/60 but very available for the YZ80 and larger. People all over looking for side covers.

Thought I would put up this pic of the bike when it was new.  See that string?  It was supposed to hold the fender.  Yea, the fender busted because it flipped over.

Take a look at the '80 YZ125 tank stickers...I think they look like a match for your style graphics.

Also, even if it isn't listed feel free to email that guy.
I know he has done custom work in the past for a guy I know to match old stuff that is no longer available.

Will do.  I have it bookmarked.  I think the YZ125 number plate on the forks was a suggestion in the clymer manual as a replacement.

eBay. They were only there maybe 10 minutes before I grabbed them.

A salvage yard had just picked the bike up and was parting it. I got the kick stand from him and decided to ask if he had the side covers. I expected to hear no but he said was about to post them.

These covers were only made two years - '80 YZ50 and '81 YZ60. For the '82 and later YZ60 the exhaust turned to the left instead of the right.  Now if Joe would mold em and make repro's...

I have some cleaning up to do when they arrive.

Thanks for checking for me!

I thought I would put some time in on Hooker today.  I pulled the engine side covers off, loosened the case half screws and pulled the motor out of the frame.

Turns out I need to obtain two tools to continue.  According to the Clymer manual, I need a flywheel (Yamaha PN 90890-01189) or a K&N puller (PN T-100/1) or something like it and a strap wrench.  I'll need something called a Grabbit for the drive sprocket.

We always like pics so here is where I am at.

Yammy wants $56+ for it, nope!  Dennis Kirk has a Motion Pro for $13.99 and Motion Pro has it for $14.50.  With shipping, it worked out a little cheaper from Motion Pro.

I found a similar clutch tool (Grabbitt) but they look to come from the UK and they are $36 UK plus shipping.  I think the strap wrench will work fine instead on the clutch basket and I will just need to figure something out for the sprocket.

Didn't do much this week.  Still waiting on a ton of parts to show up.  The sidestand and side covers showed up yesterday.  I cleaned up the side covers a bit and got some scratches out.  The front and rear of the right side cover had two melted spots from the exhaust.  One part you would never know it and the other one you would have to know it was there.  The number plate sticker will cover up those scratches in the image.

The tank strap, chain tensioner wheel and MotionPro flywheel removal tool showed up on Friday.

Thought I would drop in to Maxim Honda with the twins to see if they had a clutch removal tool (the vise grip looking kind).  They did not have one but ran into sohc4Lat there.

Spotted a used tank on eBay that was in better shape than the one I have.  Grabbed that one for $58 and shipping.  The tank I have had been leaking and they sealed with with a bolt, nut and a couple rubber washers.  I noticed all around that area that the plastic was oranged and a tad bumpy.  I will bet that is why the wires were melted along with the clutch cable sheath - fire.  Those run down the left side of the bike and the exhaust runs down the right.

We'll see what shows up this week.

It was really cool running into you and your gorgeous kids Saturday at Maxim, Rick! It was a really cool moment worth sharing when your son exclaimed, "I have a dirt bike!" with a bigger exclamation point than will fit in a text font. Very sweet moment! What great value in this kind of father/son/daughter project - at any price. ~Jeff
