Do I need to remove carbs before removing motor?
« on: August 07, 2011, 12:43:48 AM »
I am in the process of disassembling my bike and i am trying to see if its easier to pull the motor with or without carbs?  My concern is damaging the carbs on accident if i leave them installed.

Any thoughts?

Hi take the carbs off and anything else like exhaust etc will give you more room to get the motor out  ;), cheers Mick.

Remove the carbs. I took off the oil filter cover as well. On the 750, it's a tight fit.
Also helps to have some good swear words  LOL

I would take the carbs off. Also, oil filter, spigots if you have them, and lay the bike over on its right side on something soft, old couch cushion would work great.

awesome, thanks for the heads up.  I was hesitant about the laying over of the bike to remove the engine.  But it seems to be a proven method on this message board.  Yeah i also noticed that the oil filter housing looked like it it would give me problems,  i will surely remove it as well.

If this is for a 350f, you should be able to lift the motor out to the right side. I'm 64 and weigh 165 and can do it on a 400f.  It helps to take the top breather cover off.  Also, remove the cam chain adjuster bolt and nut as it can break off if it hits the frame-the end result is not fun-I know ::) :-[.   Also, remove the sprocket cover...Larry
