Cb550 - 1983 Aquired today, now what?
« on: August 07, 2011, 05:43:55 PM »
Got an 83 cb550 today. Very lucky find, looks like everything just needs rubber and gas, and a few minor fixes. I have too many projects! Considering trading for a complete cb750k engine, or selling/parting it out, or fixing it for a daily rider. This bike is a little newer than I like, and I'd really like to get my 73 cb750 chopper back under wey... but it really was comfortable rolling it down the ramp. Any fans of this model? Opinions welcom to weigh in-

rip the carbs off and send them to me! haha I am working on the same bike here right now, its my uncles, good running bike, quick, he likes it, gets good mileage also. I want the carbs, they are almost a direct bolt on to my cb750.

That brings up a good point. Wonder what all I might be able to cannibalize if I went that route. Hate the mags, couldn't use them anyway= shaft drive, but what about the stuff you always forget about? Bearings and the like. At this point, I need forks, carbs (or rebuilt), wheels, and Uhhhh... Engine. Aaarrggg!!!

You might try and find a DOHC4 forum board this is a board for SOHC4s, hence the name.

Yeah yeah... Thanks for pointing that out.  Was wondering if someone was going to get litigious and call me on that. But it's in the family, and my primary allegiance is still SOHC, but flag away if you must. I got enough passwords and usernames already, figured I didn't want another one for a DOHC forum...know what I mean.
My apologies for upsetting the order in your universe. Seriously.

What do you mean by 'almost'?

Ok- scratch that. This thing is a runner. I hooked up auxiliary gas and battery, and what do you know. Im toying with the idea of keeping it as a dd.
