Been riding my bike and come across a new thing.  I have a buzzing sound coming from the front left of the engine while riding.  I notice it mostly when I pull the clutch in and get a little rise in RPMs.  I dont think its the clutch.

It started as a tapping noise after I had an oil leak on the highway with too much oil in the bike and an oil fouled #1 plug.  Ive since rebuilt and synced the carbs, and its running great.  My first though was an exhaust leak, but have brand new gaskets. Even ran it at night and looked for a leak with a flashlight.  Then I thought it was the valve, so reset those. They were a little off, again!

It had before and still has some oil weeping from the left side, and its the same cylinder that wasnt firing when I got the bike 450 miles ago.

Ive also checked the engine hanger bolts.

Next?

i have an odd buzzing on my 400 that sounds like a broken bee at 3000rpm, really annoying when in traffic. if you find the cause of yours then let me know!

If you have that little button looking thing on top of your headlight bucket, check it...

Hmmm, button thing on top of headlight bucket? The thing that helps adjust the headlight right and left?

Anyone got anything else?

I had a loud buzzing sound on my CB900F that really rang out around 2500 rpm's. Had me worried, thought it was something in the top end. Checked with helmet off standing next to bike and found that it was a loose mirror rattling and vibrating at that rpm in its housing. Thought for sure it was from the engine. Whew, made me feel better.

Well took everyone's advice and started looking for anything loose on the front end. Well I found it, Brake Caliper! :o  It wasn't hanging loose, but the bolts needed some tightening.  100 mile ride and no buzzing.

However I seem to be going through exhaust gaskets.  #1 is leaking AGAIN! >:(

Again? How many times have you replaced it? These should last for decades on an unmolested bike. Were all the surface areas clean/smooth when you did replace them?

Yeah live and learn.  Its the same cylinder that caused me to change the gaskets 200 miles ago, but had had the exhaust on and off a few times. This is the same cylinder that was fouled and not running when i got it and fouled once on me already.  Im assuming/hoping, that it was dirty, well because I didnt clean it.

When installing always start at the head wiggle and snug then move down. I have seen people start at the back then the front does not like up just right. Leave every thing loose and tighten head first and make sure you don't have a old gasket still in there they can be hard to see take a pick and scratch if you see any copper keep digging.

Im running a Kerker 4-1

I disassembled then reassembled the exhaust collar again tonight.  With everything tightened down, the exhaust pipe is now completely loose, as though there isn't even a gasket there?

Anyone ever tried to use 2 gaskets?
