400f oil seal kit
« on: August 09, 2011, 04:40:03 PM »
So I've looked around and I can't seem to find any info on where to get an oil seal kit for the bottom end.  The only thing I can find is one set on ebay out of Canada.  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-CB400F-CB400-F-ENGINE-OIL-SEAL-SET-ALL-YEARS-/380356094579?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item588efd6a73

I have no idea if it matters or if there are good or bad sets out there so any info is greatly appreciated.  Anyone ever used Arusu oil seals?  Any other places to look?

I'm still not used to this marketplace.  I've been into old VW's and I'm used to having a million different places to choose from when looking for parts.  This is more like a needle in the haystack on some things.  Thanks guys.

Danbar,

Don't know about the US, but 400F parts are hard to locate in Oz. I access most of my stuff from

davidsilverspares.co.uk

I try to avoid ordering from overseas just for the shipping cost and time.  In this case I checked already and DSS is out of stock.  Thanks for the tip though.

That is a good kit. I've used it with good results. I recommend pulling the alternator rotor before you split the cases though. It must be removed to replace the seal at that end of the crankshaft, and it is difficult to remove the rotor when the crank is not clamped inside the cases.

Did you bore the cylinders?  If not, then did you have them checked for roundness?

Still stock bore.  I've had them measured and checked for taper and roundness and they checked out good.  Once I get the rings and pistons I just need to take it all to the machine shop and get them honed.

Good for you, that definitely makes it easier. Enjoy, and good luck assembling.
