Why did I have to look at Craigslist today?!
« on: August 08, 2011, 01:25:51 PM »
Yup, this is what I get for craigslisting today. 1971 Suzuki T500. All there. Original pipes, side covers, seat with spare, and the rest is in boxes. Only need to figure out why it won't kick. Has title, too. Got it for penuts, IMO with the prices of 2 strokes.

Not sure which direction I want to take it yet. Still need to get the 72 CB750 back on the road.

LOL, that's how I ended up with this other SL350.  ;D  Keep us posted, as to what you do with that one.  ;)

I know EXACTLY what you mean. Change the make and model a bit and you got my story. I wonder if there is professional help, and diagnosis for us? It is a compulsion for sure.

Well, found out why it won't kick. It's plain as day.

The right cylinder piston rings disintegrated and looks like it marred the piston ring grooves.

Not worried. Already sourced some +0.5mm OS pistons. The jugs will get bored to accomodate. After that, I hope it's smooth sailing.

I'm thinking of turning this into my track bike since it would require a lot less to get this running then the other CB750 which is in pieces.

Hmm, wonder what shape the crankshaft seals are in, especially between the 2 cylinders.

I can only imagine...

Figure the only way the piston rings exploded were because someone had WOT syndrome :) It only has 11k on the clock so it's still relatively young. Thank goodness two-strokes are super simple. I can still source bearings and seals online. There's a pretty decent Suzuki two-stroke site out there that helps with rebuilding the crankshaft.

Well, if they're gourmet peanuts at a dollar a piece, then 300. I've calculated the costs to get it running and it would still be cheaper over some of the two strokers I've seen fo sale.

You are VERY VERY lucky!!!!

That is a much wanted bike.
They were the king and can still compete.

I would build it as stock restoration for maximum value.
And you got the stock exhausts too it looks like.
Paint it the original stock colors.

A great project to have.
