Stuttering after small tune up

Valve clearance reset, electronic ignition plate set back on the mark...
And now it sputters! @ low RPMs it sputters, and backfires/misfires on deceleration.
 
I'm pretty sure I didn't misalign my ignition place, but that's where I'll start looking first*.

Not after asking you guys, though, which is what I'm doing now.
What do *you* think?

*Might buy a timing light. Any ghetto ways to do this? Because I am a bit out of cash  ::)

ETA: It is possible to put the plate on backwards. My friend did it to my CB750. I've learned to not let him wrench on my bike.

I've used a timing light with my electronic ignition, and while doing it, I noticed that I could get it almost perfect just by listening to the bike as I moved the plate while it's running.

you can do it.

maybe take a small marker - turn the plate to the left and right to get a feel for the sound, then mark a spot to the left and to the right where you first start to hear a negative difference in the way it runs. Split the distance perfectly, and you will be damn close, if not exactly right.

That's how I did it, then I decided to just buy the stinking light, and to my surprise, I was almost exactly right.

You sure you didn't set the valves "backwards"?

what ignition do you have?,some of the electronic types must be set to full advance at the correct rpm with a timing light,doing it by ear wont do,itll end up retarded,and we all know how bad that can be,how did the cbr rec/reg go?

Sounds like a valve is too tight and hanging open.

@ Dave: Accent. Some Germans made it. Here, the manual. I did it by the book. And the unit: good that you mention it. I had to focus on other stuff. After the 16th, I'll drop by him and let you know, k?

@ King: That might be... I'll try the electronics first. It doesn't stutter straight away, it starts doing so after riding 20+ miles.
