Resurrection of a 1971 CB500Four
« on: June 14, 2012, 06:41:55 AM »
Just wanted to post a few pics of my freshly resurrected 1971 CB500Four.  It is fixing to get some fresh paint, but I am considering a Cafe tail for it first.  Believe it or not, this bike has 6700 ORIGINAL miles on it.  It is running better than ever.  Did a plug chop on it this past weekend and all four plugs lite tan.  Anyway, beautiful riding here in West Texas.  Let me know what you think.

Hey, Welcome to the forum!  That looks like a nice '71.  I like that gray color too, not stock but it looks good!

The black on the tank is the original paint, but the rest of the tank was the "rust-brown-gold" from 1971 until last year.  It had set outside after my little brother had spilled fuel on the top while filling it up and within 3 days, the top of the tank was the infamous "gas-green."  So I sanded the brown paint down and rattle canned it gunmetal grey.  Its ok, but I am going to have a professional painter do the next job.  If I go Cafe style, he is going to put in knee dents, fill in the emblem mounts and paint the tank and cafe seat orange with a white strip down the middle.

Are the pipes in nice shape?  Don't trash 'em if they're nice, someone will want 'em.

The pipes are in excellent shape. No rust spots at all. I don't know if I will be able to let them go. There is just something about the 4 "shiny hineys" out the back. Plus it makes it easier to determine which cylinder is smoking.  ;)
