hello from canada
« on: July 19, 2011, 09:56:31 PM »
I'm completely new here, and just picked up a 77 CB750 custom.  The problem is, is this the 'K' model, or what exactly do I have?
This is my next project, and just finished a GL500 cafe conversion.

I'm mostly concerned about the 836 bore kits, and what the downfalls of the wiseco litre kits are?  I know the big 1000cc kits require case boring and heavier studs, but I'm looking for more info.  I'm sure I'll find it here in the forums, as all my Q's have been answered years ago.

Cheers from Canada!
This looks like a great site already

You really need stronger rods and some potential head work to get the most of a 1000 kit.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

The 1000cc kits also require quite extensive boring of the block, which if not done properly can lead to oil leaks. {common}
For what reason do you want to go 1000cc.?  A well sorted 836 with headwork, carbs, rods and cam will surprise most people and it leaves scope for other kits later.

If You can't fix it with a hammer, You've got an electrical problem.

What cam would you recommend with the 836?  The price tag is fairly steep for a CycleX set-up, and I'm fairly confident I can rebuild the engine with all the parts in my hand for a cheaper price tag.   What would you recommend for headwork, with bushings and such?  Is that something that is better left to someone that has done it before?
I rebuilt my GL500 (81) engine, and have access to machine shop, and all the other fun tools.
For some reason this 77 cb750 seems like a daunting task trying to decide on a big bore kit, and 'waking it up' to it's full potential.
