RC 750 lookalike
« on: August 16, 2011, 05:05:21 AM »
Hi all, i have just spent 2 years building a V8 Cobra replica, which is now on the road. my problem now is what to do next, i have a CB 750 F1 honda, in bits in the garage, and was wondering if this could be turned into a RC 750 lookalike, on the ones i have seen they were fitted with a rear drum brake, where mine has a disc, can a earlier 750 hub be fitted to mine without to much trouble? or a different twin leading hub from something else, and will the F1 frame present any problems, all cosmetic parts ie tank, seat oil tank etc will be bought from Mead Speed, any information will be appreciated, thanks Tony,             PS the engine will remain standard as will only be a lookalike project.

Hey Tony - rear brake isn't a problem, you just need to take care of the spacing and chain when ou put in the replacement drum. what drum are you looking at - full works replica or something a bit cheaper?
Mead Speed do all the parts but you can also get them straight from the manufacturer, bartel engineering in Donaghadee northern Ireland and save your self the mark up (about 20%).
Good project to go for and lots of information on this forum, should be fun!

Lovely exhaust, LMP. Why is your pricing so much higher for the UK vs the "Rest of the World"?   ???  RR

Sorry, Sam... It's backwards from what it should be. It's now: UK $1359 USD; Elseware $1586 USD. Tax and VAT don't apply to exported sales. That's why it seemed a little strange to me. Maybe a mistake on the site?  :o

I was interested in a set. That's why I bothered to look closely. It's also bassackward on the rest of the products.  ???  RR

Perhaps Simon is not VAT registered then Ted, could just be postage and packing.
Postage from the UK is a bit ott, I once priced shipping a small cylinder block (Honda 150) to the States, it was 3 times what the block was worth. >:(
Perhaps best to PM Simon for clarification.

Hi, Sam. Thanks for the input. I will PM Simon. I expected him to respond in this thread since he posted a link to his site.

You may be correct, but I didn't see anything on Simon's site suggesting that pricing was inclusive of packaging and shipment.

Hopefully the prices are inadvertently reversed. Although I have a set of unused Swarbricks I can fit to my Rickman, I do have an interest in the pipes sold by Simon due to their comparitive ease of fitment. I consider his CR-style pipes to be the best available. Of course, pricing can oftimes be a deal breaker when one is on a strict budget.  :'(

Thanks again. Ted

It isn't - price for UK inc packing crate and insurance is about £25, for the rest of the world the postage is sadly a whopping £160, but they do reach you in under 5 days!

There are also two prices on the site - one for megaphones only and one for full system including the headers. If you look at the full system cost for UK it's more than the megaphone cost for the rest of the world - that's the only time UK cost is more than RoW :-)
Cost includes all post and packing (large plastic crate) but not local customs charges of course. Hope that clarifies Ted...?

Sam - you're right, I'm not VAT registered. In fact I pass these on almost at cost with just a little overhead to cover my fuel costs so I won't be giving up my day job :D

Thanks for the succinct reply, Simon. So the export prices include shipping. That make a lot of sense. Your exhaust is an impressive job of fitment and a quantum step for CR750 replicas and CB race bikes. RR

And thank you for the PM. I apologize for being so tardy in responding. I'll correct that immediately. RR

You're spot on Ted - all shipping included which certainly takes care of a hefty amount for senidng these overseas I'm afraid. No problem on the speed of response, I presume you're up to your elbows in bike building :D

Thanks, Simon. I appreciate your understanding. Yep, both lifts are filled and there are another thirty-five or so bikes in the warehouse that are getting very lonely. Not to mention the customers, the shipping delays from Europe, the parts orders I have to fill and ship, the occasional drop-in customers, the phone calls and emails... Whew, sure is nice to be retired from the jewelry biz! Now, if I can just find where I left the energy I had twenty years ago...

Anyway, now I've got to run to the machinist. I'll get back on the computer sometime later today. Cheers!  RR
