'78 CB750F: Troubleshooting intermittent electrical problems

My turn signals don't blink most of the time, but they do sometimes above ~4000 RPM. Also, my main fuse blows, or rather melts on one side every couple of weeks. I think it might be related to the turn signal problem because I think every time I have blown a fuse (~3x) the turn signal has been on. Also, perhaps related, this week the bike seemed not to be charging. I started it, rode a couple of miles stopped it and had to kick it started. Then I stopped again and couldn't even get it to kick. Dead bike, but the fuses were all OK. I walked home and got the car to take the battery out. When I got back, I turned it on for some reason before taking the battery out and it had enough juice to power the neutral and oil lights, but not enough to even kick start. After I charged the battery and put it back in, it started right up with the button.

I have spent a fair amount of time with steel wool, contact cleaner, and 320 sandpaper cleaning connections at various times after blowing fuses, including yesterday.

I haven't seen anything really corroded. Yesterday I saw that the insulation on one of the ignition coil wires was broken, and there was some corrosion on the magnetic switch. I cleaned these. I didn't start the bike after that, but I did turn it on. Still no blinking on the turn signals, and now my neutral light seems to be not working, and if I turn the key on and off, the bike has no power roughly every other time. The neutral light problem is brand new. The occasional lack of power when turning the bike on is not new, but more frequent now than before.

Sorry for the rambling post. I'm trying to provide as much relevant information as possible. I guess my questions are:

1) Does it sound like these problems are related, or separate problems?
2) It there a way to systematically troubleshoot these problems? Other than the turn signals not blinking, I can't recreate any of them.
3) How do you clean the female parts of the connections and the ones that are multiple plugs? I have just been spraying contact cleaner in there and using steel wool on the male parts. (Please don't make the obvious joke about this.)

The bike is totally stock except the points have been replaced with an electronic ignition by the PO. I think he had intermittent fuse issues, because there were 4 spare main fuses (sort of. They were slightly too long and 14A. I have replaced it with one of the correct size and amperage.) under the seat. The turn signal problem has been there since I got the bike, but has gotten worse, then a little better after cleaning some connections, and now worse again. It has just under 11k miles on it.

Never mind. Like every other time someone posted this issue, it turned out to be a loose ground.  :-[

Clean up ur fuse holders too.  Make sure the insides are as shiny as the tips of a new fuse.  They also need to have a firm grip on the fuse cap.  So tight that you shouldn't be able to pull the fuse out with just ur fingers.

You couls also replace your fuse block with a blade fuse block.  I think Hondaman is still making them.  Check the For Sale forum.
