There seems to be a fair amount of discussion on other motorcycle forums about using the infrared thermometer for adjusting your idle mixture and it all makes sense to me, too hot means too lean, and too cold means too rich, I just need to know what the base figure for the optimum mixture setting is, and I'll give it a try. Does anyone know? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Exactly, that is what I want to know too. My desire is modest: first of all, more than the exact temperature ranges, I would like to know if it's possible to equalise the carbs on mixture with such a thermometer.
Say, if you have a cylinder that has the right mixture, can you use its temperature as reference for the other three. This ofcourse in a situation that all other maintenance points are checked and in order.

what i have done is just use the ir thermometer to compare the temp differences between the cylinders. the main thing that you should do is make sure that you measure the temp as close to the same spot on all the pipes. if everything is tuned right the temp should be pretty close. when i get my o2 sensor in (the last one died) ill take some baseline measurements with the a/f ratio. obviously every bike is different though. i doubt this will work very well in adjusting the a/f ratio but should help make sure the carbs are pretty even
