Better try Swartz's Deli for the Montreal smoked meat! Good luck on the rest of the ride.

Just got to Montreal last night after a week and a half in Kingston. Everything went well, got the new plate and it's running nice. From Boston we will ride the coast till we hit New York. Well, off we go in search of the tastiest poutine. If we don't make it to the states it's because we had heart attacks.

Stellar!!!!
Come on!  We're burning daylight!

Hey Guys,

It was nice to meet you both and hear some of your travel adventures.  The bikes both looked great and hopefully the fork seal changing session is going well today.  Best of luck with the rest of the trip.

Just heard from them (they are working in my garage) -  they are having problems getting the fork tubes out of the triple trees....anyone got a good technique for this? Idea here is to change the fork seals...wheel/fender etc is off the bike.

I used a large wooden dowel that fir right on top of the spring bolt(?).
Several timid taps did nothing, I ended up wailing on mine pretty good and it finally started to move. The upper forks were glued (By rust) to the headlight bucket ears... Plenty of penetrating oil.

I also used an oil filter wrench - you know - the one with the rubber belt.

A little banging and a little twisting and mine eventually came out. It seemed MUCH harder than it should have been....

Good luck,
Phil

Andy, make sure they have loosened both bolts (tops and bottoms).  The bottoms hide behind the "honda" cross brace thingy.  When i did mine, they actually slide out really easy.  A little too easy and I almost dropped the first one.  I am guessing their trouble might be due to corrosion.  A little sand paper should get through the really gross stuff and some pb blaster should help.  When all else fails, get a bigger hammer...

Thanks for all the help guys (especially Andy), just arrived in NY last night and the forks show no sign of leakage. The difference is night and day. No more pogo sticks for front suspension. My arms needed the rest!

Alright fellas, I'm in the process of uploading some pics (sorozcojr.tumblr.com). So keep tuned!

P.S. The fork seals don't leak anymore! Phewww, it only took a six pack of beer and lots of mumbling cursing.

Leaving NY tomorrow, we miss the warm weather but, most importantly we miss ridding. First stop, Philly cheese steaks. Then a must visit to one of the finest beer co., Dogfish Head.
