VRRA Vintage Festival @ Mosport 2011
« on: August 14, 2011, 03:54:22 PM »
Just got back from Mosport, and the bike races.  A number of SOHC4's were there, but it was bwaller's races I watched.  I'll let him give you the turn by turn account.

However I can report that he's travelling home with a 2ND from the 1st heat race, and a 3rd from the 2ND race today. 8) 8) 8) 8)

Suffice to say, the bike is fast, as well as looks and sounds great.  Unfortunately if you don't have a telephoto lens things are far away. :(  Did manage to grab this - entering turn 9 (over compensated for speed a bit ;)).

I still need to size some other photos, and will add them later.  A couple of the Bol D'Or replica with Curtis frame/ tank/ swingarm.  Also took a lot of photos of the side cars, but missed out on a noon ride. :(  Not sure where to post them, as there were no Honda's. :o  That said an 82 750F would make an interesting bases for a P3. ;)

Figured these belonged here.  The Rudges I'll post in the Inspiration Gallery. ;) :)  A couple of pictures of Denis Curtis' handy work.  RCS900 replica with his frame, tank, and swingarm.  Engine built by M3.

And a CR750 replica owned / raced by the same person, and showing the effects of a season's racing. ;)

Oh, and bw when are you going to give us the 'rides eye' view of that great move from 4th to 2nd through the pack.  That was very cool. ;D ;D

Well where to begin. A big thanks to Tim (4hundred4racer) for the coaching. We both did a track day Thursday and practice Friday so he helped drag me up to speed. Tim seems to spend more time helping everyone else, all the while struggling with one of his own bikes.

My little bike ran like a top all weekend. In the cooler mornings a 127.5 mainjet, warmer air a 125. Charge the battery, add gas and ride the buggar, should be simple.  ;) The 6 spd g-box is nearly flawless, just needs deliberate pedal action. I geared to 17/36 and if (when) I got a good drive out of the hairpin did often hit the limiter @10500 in 6th just as I set-up for turn 8, pretty cool....and very friggin fast, at least for me. I wish I knew how fast, I did turn a 1:45.4, and average speed 82mph. I'm sure not a lightning bolt, but am getting better. This is such a fast track, man what a blast.

First race was P3 light, lots of GPZ550's, managed a second place well behind a fast 650 Ducati. I was third until a TZ250 retired with trouble. I couldn't even see the Ducati after two laps but kept the TZ close, just couldn't reel him in.

In P2 middleweight production, I finished third behind two good riders. I did work by them both to the front for a while, but had lousy luck getting by slower 750's (two wave start, 750's then middleweights) and later on lapped riders and the other two guys blew past. #$%* every time I got close again, I got held up. Just part of the game, I had incredible luck getting through traffic the previous race.

This guy didn't need much help, believe me! It's like he's been racing steady for the last 20 yrs....

That is a great lap time Brent. Should be close to what Scott was doing on his 550...his second year on the 4 stroke.

Congrats again, and see you at the Quebec GP....shorter track might make it a little easier for me to keep up.  :P

Will post videos ASAP,

Not sure Scott was any faster TimV.  Brent definitely had legs on him 1 to 2, I think traffic (as he mentioned) was more of a factor in the 2ND heat.  Your right though, he sure did looked comfortable, well in control, and decisive.  Well except for that shake exiting 10. :o  What rust there may have been, sure looks like its gone now.
