The remains of The Checker Motor Company. Some of you might remember the iconic, bulbous nosed New York taxis of the 60's and 70's. This is where they were built.
Checker started in 1922. The last cab rolled of the line in 1982. Since New York City had a law that cabs couldn't be more that 5 years old, the last Checker-built cab left the streets of NYC around 1987. Since '82, Checker built parts for other car companies, namely GM. Checker did not survive the Great Recession and finally folded in 2010.
