Thought I would share this awesome piece of motorcycle history I picked up from MI when I went for a visit the other week.
Things I know about the bike.
-Good-
Frame is tagged as a 1958 200cc Maico
Motor is NOT frozen!
Sounds like the motor has compression (got that nice whooshing sound of compression if you kick it)
The transmission does shift in and out of neutral. If motor is kicked while in gear the back tire will turn.
Seat is in awesome condition
-Bad-
Tank is missing
Front brake is locked
Missing underseat air box
Forks and shocks are probably frozen
Seems like anything Pre 70's Maico is rare as hell. I can barely find information on them other then a handful of sites and a few pictures of the sales brochure. Seems like it was a bad ass looking little bike in its day.
Not sure what I want to do with it. The bike was essentially free, so id rather get it into someones hands who will restore it moreso than I would, and maybe make a buck or two. Or it would be pretty boss to get it running with a test tank or something and whip it extra old vintage.
What would something like this even be worth?
From what I can find online and whats on the bike, I think the bike is a 1958 Maico 200 2-stroke Blizzard. Here is a brochure from the 250 blizzard... but you get the picture.
