Up and running!  It's a great little bike, and it stopped smoking after a few miles too.  Do you have a link to any pics of your bikes?

My first bike was a 1976 CB750K.  I traded some rare baseball and football cards to my brother in law for it.  To him it was just a junky old bike.  To me it was an entry into motorcycles.  I was 16 it was 1990 and I had a motorcycle.  The problem was that I hated the way it looked.  So I tried to make it look "cool".

I sold the bike in 1995 and bought an old Triumph Bonneville.  I never thought much about CB750s after that.  The Bonneville opened up a new world of Brit bikes for me.  The bikes I wanted were Triumphs, Nortons, and BSAs.  Then I got the June 2000 issue of Cycle World.

http://www.m3racing.com/pressmedia/CWjune2000/cycleworld.html

Inside was a story about M3 and their CR750 Dick Mann replica.  The CB750 had got some decent press in the early 90s but I still couldn't get past the boxy looking tank and wide seat.  Those were sandcasts/K0s anyway and they didn't really look like my bike.  When I went to the Honda dealer to get parts it looked small and old next to the newer bikes.  It wasn't really considered a classic yet and it wasn't unique or rare.  I wanted something different.  But if I could get a CB750 cheap and make it look like that CR750 replica that would be interesting.  I might even get into vintage racing.

Well I got a cheap K1 in 2001.

The CR build was on ..................... or so I thought.  I soon realized that alot of people were building CR replicas.  My life had changed to the point where I wasn't going to be vintage racing my CR, so I went back to wanting a Norton Commando.  Through Commando dreaming I came across the woodgate Dunstall site http://www.woodgate.org/dunstall/  Everything you ever wanted to know about Dunstalls (kind of).  When I saw the pics and specs of the Dunstall Honda for the first time something clicked.  I wanted that.  Even better, I had a K1 disassembled in my garage.

The search for Dunstall parts started around 2002/2003.  I would eventually get enough kit parts to start building the bike in 2009.  The build took about 3 years and is complete for now.  Here's the build thread http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=55860.0  I still want to do a rear disk conversion and I need to get the fairing lowers painted and the Decibel mufflers chromed.

Its the bike I wanted when I was 16 but didn't know existed - a unique CB750.  To bring the story full circle the Honda dealer that I used to go and get parts from is long gone (Imperial Honda).  I went to an event a few saturdays ago called Retro Saturday at the local Yamaha dealer.  I didn't feel ashamed or inferior of my CB750 anymore.  It was voted best in show and I was very proud to own this bike.

Thanks and good luck to all.

^ love the old scanned  pics!!^

Seeing as im a new comer to bikes, unfortunately i dont have any awesome old poloroids or anything of me next to my first bike back in the day like Rookster..  I can try to give a little back story as to how i got the bike and stuff though for sure..

A very good buddie of mine aquired this bike I'd say about 4 or 5 years ago now and at the time i was renting garage space with a couple friends and offered to let him keep it there till he was ready to do something with it. I had always thought it was just a neat little bike and kinda had the feeling that someday I would end up buying it.

Fast foward a couple years and I had moved out of the shop i was in and hadnt seen the bike in a long while. It was still being stored at the old shop though and one night i got a call from the kid i would eventually buy it from asking if i could help him load it into a truck and move it to his new house. So we dug it out of the corner it was buried in  and rolled it outside.  That was the first time i got to actually sit on it and really check it out..  I totally fell in love but at the time i just wasnt in the place to take on another project as i was up to my ears in a car build.  Once we dropped it off at his house there it sat for another year or so untill I finally pulled the trigger on it..

this is what she started out as..pretty ruff for sure, and def not too pretty :P

ill stop there for now and add more over the next couple days for sure  :)

Mine was a $500 craigslist find.  I bought her last Sept looking like this:

Within a few weeks, she looked like this:

Small trinkets from other bikes found their way onto the bike, like the CBR 600RR tail light with integrated turn signals:

Soon after, it was down to a frame for added gussets:

A cold, hard winter, two parts bikes, two girlfriends, and many months later, she looks like this:

Everything was done in my garage with the exception of the seat, which was done in my living room by my sister.  It took a few phone calls and some pizza to get her to do it, but it came out very well.

Big thanks to the friends and family that helped, along with Bunicula (Jay) who I swapped knowledge with a lot along the way, and Aladinsane07 (Evan) who I met on here and turned out to be a cool local with one of the parts bikes I ended up with.

Thought I would add a little more content..

A big part of this build was the excitement and challenge of  Building my first motorcycle for sure. So that being said I was so anxious to get going on it that it looked like this within the first few days of getting it.

The more I dug the more parts I found that looked like this..

With alot of elbow grease, the great information on this forum and lots of long nights it started to turn around..

Some little details..

Heres the the new rear hoop I made out of a swingarm stand handle welded in and  the seat pan and tail section.. At this point I had painted the tank and side covers as well. This was a really exciting point in the build for sure

Hope you guys don't mind all the pics.. Next post will be the last  ;)
