Strange noise on rebuilt rear wheel
« on: August 16, 2011, 05:30:36 PM »
1976 CB550k

Just installed te wheel I rebuilt, with new sealed bearings, spokes trued and speed balancing.

Just tightened chain, and while creeping it around, it makes the noise in video below.

I confirmed it's not the tire rubbing on floor or frame, and not the chain guard.

Any thoughts?

Im not sure if you guys are getting the audio/video, it looks weird on my phone. I'm stuck in Vermont with no computer. Hope it's working.

Any help is much appreciated.

Sometimes the Greasy Spacer, gets left out/goes missing.. goes  in the sprocket carrier if your bike has that , between (and in) the sprocket bearing, and nearest hub bearing..

Sorry, what does the greasy spacer look like???

I have a spacer there that fits in the chain guard perfectly. Is that the one you are talking about? IIRC it was similar to the one that goes on the outside of the hub, between brake side and fork - but the one I'm thinking of only had one lip.

Does this video sound dangerous? I want to make sure I'm not riding on something that will bind.

Thanks for your help.
