Anyone using CRG Bar end mirrors. Now that I have clip-ons I can't use my napolean bar ends because the ID of the bars are smaller. The CRG's clamp on the outside of the bar. They are pricy around 70 each but are foldable and have a convex lense to reduce blindspots. The thought of using the stock Mickey Mouse mirrors isn't appealing now that I have the clip-ons on.

I have heard of a few people finding almost the same thing at a bicycle shop, as far as mountain bikes go, for $20 bucks or so.....??

Yeah, cost is a HUGE factor. I actually found a CRG look-a-like on ebay for $60 bucks. It was for a pair of mirrors but are no folding though.

Good stuff is never cheap...those are nice mirrors. How about some Napoleon bar end end units. They are about half the price and are nice quality. I have run them for years now. Just make sure they are the Napoleon units...many cheap knockoffs out there.

The inside diameter of the aluminum clip ons I have are too small for the mirrors mounts to fit in. Outside mount or some creativity are the only thing I see working.

A bit pricey, but I am running these barend mirrors from a UK company - great quality - the inside mount is adjustable to fit different inner bar diameters:

They also sell mirrors that clamp to the outside of a 7/8" handlebar:

Use drywall anchors, the type that have the bolt on the outside ( not the nut) (RAWLE (SP?) bolts for British people) you can get them pretty much any size you need and fit whatever mirrors you want. (just need a small clamp for mirror stem)

PJ that sounds interesting, but what type of drywall anchors are you talking about. please describe how they look andhow they work to mount mirrors. i might check it out.

Never thought of that. Probably some good steel Home Depot anchors would work. I'm not limited to the bolt used as it comes out easy enough from the mirrors. This forum again lends a nice hand.. Weekend project.

Great ideas. I'll mull it all over this weekend. One thing I do know is that I can't justify dropping 140 bucks on mirrors for a 30 year old bike. A newer bike probably could, but not this bike. I'm actually running the Emgo napolean style mirrors and for 30 bucks/set they work great.

I am right their with ya buddy. I am not speding $100+ for mirrors install on a bike I spent $800 to purchase, no matter how "cool" or "trick" the mirror is. I plan to stop at a few bicycle shops this weekend and see wha they have available...

Hey, I just put my bar-ends back on last weekend. I ditched the junk metal mounts that they came with & made my own rubber compression anchors. I took 2 - 2" x1"x1" pieces of sturdy rubber & shaped them on the belt sander till they fit inside my bar ends (2" x approx 5/8" cylinder). Then I drilled the center out & used a spiked T-nut to thread the mounting bolt into from the other side. When set in the bar & tightened, the t-nut compresses the rubber to hold the mirror in place. They're the crap bar ends from ebay, but at least they vibrate less than they used to with those metal mounts.

I think he means something like this Rawlplug, if you can find one that expects a hole (in concrete, but...) the size of the inside of your bars, it would work.

just for the record...i have one of those overpriced mirrors on my 550 and i love it! i balked at the price too, but now i can see perfectly, mirror is small and inconspicuous, and didn't even break one someone knocked my bike over. vibration has been reduced to nothing, and i can actually see if there are any cops behind me before taking off! they are great mirrors.

those are the ones, and in conjunction with my clubmans, they really do make my 550 a sweet little lanesplitter. never mind the harleys or the beamers, sportbike kids can't keep up with my low profile.

I've decided I'm going to try and fab something up that will work with my ebay cheapy napoleon style mirrors first. If I can't get that going to my liking I'll go the CRG route, but only 1 at a time as there pricey. Occasionally you can get 2 for a good deal on Ebay but its a waiting game. I saw some 5/8" concrete mounts at Home Depot today and with some work cutting them down (there 6" long) it may work. Couldn't find any rubber plugs that werent tapered and only 1" long anywhere today, either at the local hardware store or HomeDeport/Lowes..
