What engine could I use?
« on: August 23, 2011, 02:59:37 AM »
hey,

I'm in the process of building up a board track racer replica.

I'll either stretch out an ancient push bike frame and use that as the base, or start from scratch.... but that's beyond the point!

I'm looking for some kind of engine, preferably 4 stroke to chuck in the frame.

I'm looking for some kind of old school engine that would suit the style of a board track racer. At the moment, I've got an old side valve Wisconsin engine, which isn't really ideal, but if all else fails its around 500cc and sounds cool lol.

Any ideas of what sort of engine I can use that is fairly easy to ge a hold of?

Whizzer, ,Jack &Heinz, Maytag, are all good choices.
The real bike motiors like above, fit in with  near stock width pedal cranks.. everything else is way to wide because it was not designed to fit a bicycle..
If you liik at a teens Harley
twin it is SURPRISINGLY NARROW, probably narrower than an XL 250 or 350. That is part of the charm it looks like a motorized bicle. Stuff too wide a motor in, it wont look the same..

Inline fours are not good for this application.

the vangaurd V-twin could be cool.

I've always wanted a sachs KM3 rotary engine, but I dunno where to find one....

a rotary engine doesn't really suit the idea, but i still want one! lol

if you could get 5 of them in a single crankcase, that would be awesome!

Lets keep in mind im on apprentice pay haha, have you seen how much just 1 of those is worth!

I've got a 32cc Chinese copy of the GX32 engine, its nice as. but its not old and loud and cantankerous

Thats on my to do list, I need a shed with a lathe and a mill first haha.

I've got some spare rolling frames from a Kawasaki KV100, so I'd like a Sachs rotary engine for one of them.
And for the other I want to chuck something huge in it, just overpower the hell out of it.

I think for the board track replica, I'll use the old side valve wisconsin engine i've got, i think its about 600cc... and its loud lol

it wouldn't be quite "period" but a "bevel drive" duc 125  would certainly  have the "look"  G
