Not to worry, not a tire thread
« on: August 22, 2011, 10:57:33 PM »
I'm outfitting my 78 750F3 with some new shoes.  It has the comstar wheels.  The tires I took off had tubes in them.  I thought this type of wheel could go tubeless.  Is there some reason a wheel built 33 years ago was not designed to run tubeless?  Is there something in the wheel design that won't let a modern tire seat properly?  I can't find a discussion in anywhere.  Thanks

Tubeless tires need a conformant seat on the wheel for proper bead lock and seal.  If it doesn't have that, the tire will need a tube.
A 33 year old rim will say tubeless on it somewhere if it complies with requirements.

There is also the matter of a valve stem to fit properly.
