sad ring story
« on: May 04, 2006, 05:30:00 AM »
A while ago there was a post about Yoshimura 812 pistons and standard Honda piston rings that allegedly fit them.
did we ever find the truth about that ??.
it was suggested that cb360 twin piston rings were the go, but I don't think it was ever confirmed ( someone must have a motor they can strip to check for us  ::) )

here's the short story; this bloke I know (me!) had a 750 with yoshi 812 kit.
gets water in motor  :'( :'(
later buys 750 with some spares. In the spares there's some odd pistons .yoshi 812  8)

NOW I've got a set of pistons but need some rings.
I know its only rock and roll,
but I like it...

I have some pistons and liners out of a CB360 sitting on the bench, (fitted Suzuki GSX-R 1100 pistons, 78mm instead of stock 67mm ;D ;D) what do you want to know?

I have a Yoshi 810 kit. When it came time to ID rings for a rebuild I sent a piston to Hastings. They ID'd it (nice guys - No Charge) as using the same rings as the 68 to 72ish CB350. They work great. Do not know whether the 360s are the same as the 350. I have a Yoshi catalogue from the 70's should you need info. My CR racing pages are stuck together however and I was unable to steam them.

The 812 should be 64 mm. That would be a CB350, not 360.

Thanks guys, I think I'll have to get a set of rings of a 350 and see how it compares with my remaining set for the 812

shouldn't be too hard to source,  so it's cb350 ,
I know its only rock and roll,
but I like it...

That's good to know Mutty, I recently bought a forged 64mm big bore kit for a CB750, it's NOS because the original owner busted a compression ring and never installed it. I must look out for a replacement ring. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I have it scanned for you guys. It's from the 70's and covers 750, 500, and 400 plus Kaw 1000 and Suzi 750. From the table of contents you will notice that there are a few pages missing. These were stuck together and I was unable to scan. I'm not great on the computer and I'm sure it's a big file. I'm not sure how to download it due to it's size. Help !!!
