Hey Guys,
First post in SOHC4.net! Thanks for all the lovely advice I've gotten just from reading through these posts already.
Here is my problem.
I made a totally rookie error while disassembling my carbs yesterday. Instead of cleaning each carb while still attached to the throttle and choke shaft, I tried disassembling the entire set...In the process I removed the choke valves for two of the carbs and quickly realized (upon further reading of the addendum to the shop manual) that the screws that secured them are peened at the factory...and will not fit back in once removed. So that's fine and dandy...go get some new 3mm screws, and a few lock washers right? Sure, that would work had I not stripped the threads out of one of the screw holes on the choke shaft...damnit...
To compound things even worse, when I was sliding out the choke shaft, I didn't note the location of the spring/shaft when it was assembled, and the spring (a pain in the A$$ to begin with) is somewhat bent.
Although this sucks...The carbs WERE relatively clean, just some minor tarnish on the float bowls...floats (what are they made out of? wood? plastic?...best method to clean?) etc. The jets were a little gunked up (I didn't remove the pressed in jets (slow jets?) but I'm going to have to go back through them once I get the choke valves/shaft issue fixed.
I'd love to hear if anyone else has ever made this mistake, and if so how they remedied the situation. Thanks guys!
