Chaps and chappettes.

My dormant cb500/4 project is about to get a large cash injection and one thing I would want to shove into it is a box alloy swing arm.

Now carpy makes the 750 dresda replica, but he's just thrown the price up to 500 bucks without shipping. And he doesn't believe it's a direct swap (which I was sure it is), not to mention he will never return my emails for quotes.

The other I know about is that bimotoa replica. But it is quite expenso at 650 euros

Anyone have any leads on anything else? Ordering everything starts next week. Woot.

Bob, the early slab sided GSXR 750 swingarm is a straight bolt in, all you have to do is have someone take out the monoshock section and shorten it to suit...... Here's one already done....



I have a shortened one on my F1 build and will be using a 750 arm on my K2....

Holy hell, thats a bit naughty isn't it.

The slabbie arm would need duel clevis lugs tigged on though wouldn't it? Bearings made? Spacers for the wheel? It would be worth it if I can find a cheap one, comparing prices of the competition.

I know a decent machine man in Brookvale, but everything has it's price. Still, thats one to start trawling ebay for. Cheers big fella.

No worries mate. Yeah, you need to add the clevis mount if you want but i went with the other way so i have a bigger range of shocks to choose from. This one of the 1100 arms i had modded. Thats on an F1 cb750


Spacers are easy to get and actually, the 1100J arm i used had the same size axle, so i would get some Suzuki spacers and modify them to suit, probably cheaper than having them made....  You should be able to find the 750 arms easily, they sold thousands of the gixers  in the 80's...... I will be using the GSXR750 arms in the future as they aren't as long as the 1100 arms. The 1100  arm is around 40mm longer than stock once shortened. I also saw a modded alloy arm on this site that was shortened at the front, doesn't look all that hard to do....

 All i know is that the M arm is longer and you need to remember that i had the monoshock section removed and the whole arm shortened and its still 40mm longer. I would be looking for an early GSXR750 arm to mod if i were to do it again, like the one on the 500 racer i posted, because they are an extruded type swingarm cutting them down is a bit easier than some of the later model cast type arms. They can also be shortened by cutting the pivot section off and removing some material at the front of the arm also.  I suppose it all depends on whether its worth all the fuss to you, I don't mind at all but i could see it scaring off a few people.....   Do you know anyone who could do the modifying for you.?

Oh I have just the right guy for the job. Ben over at extream creations builds turbo GSX1400's for fun as an example. From show bikes to his blown zx9 drag bike, he knows his stuff. It's just a question of moolah.

I found an M' arm this morning, but it is quite long. I do want a longer swingarm to get some weight on the front wheel. And for the higher speed cornering yada yada ya. You know the drill.

If I can find another arm but a 750 for the same price (50 bucks), and have everything machine for 500 bucks (same price as what comotose carpy deals) I'll be happy.

Just depends on the amount of work. And I'll have to lug around my frame, taking apart the dry build. So It's down the line.

I'll look for the 750 arm!

shall! I'm taking my 750 triple tree to have my 500/4 stem pressed in and welded by old mate. So I'll make some inquiries on Saturday.
