Greetings from Helsinki
« on: May 06, 2006, 03:02:55 AM »
Hello!I'm newbie here.I have 2 of SOHC Four engines exploded to pieces on my table.1st one is K2 with Arias Pistons 832,9  with stock or mild cam in it.2nd one
is K6 with modified K1 cylinder head(Smaller oil lines to cam),head is ported, pistons are HAINDST900cc flathead, cam is hotter, there is "R12" mark in it.
Is there anyone who's experienced with these kits?I have to put engine together for this summer, and leave other one for next winter-project.
So,professionals, which one you prefer?I think Arias Pistons looks more professional, with deeper valvepockets. So,waiting for answers!! ::)

Welcome to the site!

Afraid your way ahead of my spanner abilities. Never took an engine to bits yet. You'll get plenty of good replies on this site very shortly I'm sure.

Hope you get one of them running soon.

If you don't get replies to this thread, post similar info under a title "Arias pistons" or similar that will attract the attention of MRieck and the like.

Or PM him with the question.

No worries Steve..I can smell these posts ;) I'd use the Arias kit with the hotter cam and the ported head. What compression ratio are they? I have helped a guy(and his friends) in Turku out a lot. His name is Juha and is dragracing a GS1100 now and has a CB750. I ported the GS head for him and I'm in the process of porting a GSXR head for his friend, Opa. Let me know if I can help out.

Hey Jarrko,
I'm on the same page as Mike (MRieck). However I'd also like to add that you need to send the extra set of 900 jugs and pistons to me since you'll only be using one. I'd like to add them to my beer holder.

And here's cams, left one is stock(I think)"R8",Right one is something else,"R12" and MU marks in it.
So..My opinion is: I'm gonna put together Arias pistons with that hotter cam,and ported head.
What you think?I'm little bit confused with these SOHC engines, but getting better day by day.
I used to work as a Harley(You know that oil leaking bastard ;))-mechanic,but these Japs are more
sensitive.Ok,waiting for your answer while tasting icecold Finnish beer...It's much better than your budweiser ::)
If you don't believe me,fly here and taste,I'll buy first 15 pints to you!

Get a damn wheelie bar !!! I haven't heard of a good fool proof way to ID the cams other than eyeball comparisons or mic'ing em.

That Arias piston is 12 to 1 compression. You will have trouble with it on the street.

Too much compression=too much heat. on a street CB i'd stick between 10 or 10.5 to 1 compression ratio. The higher number would be with some chamber work, good squish and a good ignition system.

That beer is Finnish lager,it tastes pretty much like bud,but it's STRONGER! Brand is KARJALA,it's name of the area we've lost when in war against our little
neighbour Russia. So,we gonna get it back by drinking "Karjala"little by little... ;)

  Morjens
That chamber pretty much stock for an early head. Later heads lost those high ridges around the valve seats and sparkplug. I'll take some pics of the difference between  stock late/early chambers and modified chambers and post them later. I'll take some pics of stock K, F and F2 pistons so you can compare domes. You will quickly see the Arias is real high compression and would need designer fuel. Not very practical for"street" riding.

Hi Mike! Okay... I recently picked up a set of NOS Action Four 12.0 to 1 pistons. What mods would you recommend to make them as usable as possible for limited street use on an early K? F2 heads and cylinders? Thick Cometic head gasket? Oil cooler? Dyna ignition? Water injection? Any direction based on your extensive experience would be appreciated by many of us who run across these high-comp pistons. Thanks!

Ok Mike! Thanks for very fast answers!I trust your experience. What you think of those HAINDST900cc pistons with that hotter cam above?
They were together when I bought bike, but terrible oil leak in basegasket, noisy valves, blue smoke...So..I have all parts in my table now.
I'm worried of Haindst-pistons very small valvepockets!?!I have problems to get GOOD basegasket+headgasket from Finland.I know you have COMETIC
in U.S,but I don't have VISA..Do you know is there any chance to pay cash straight to their bank-account or some other way?

One more question...I bought a new camchain,as a stock, but it looks more weak than old one...New one is D.I.D(top),old one is R.K.Which one I should use?
