CB650 gas mileage, what to expect?
« on: September 09, 2011, 12:12:47 AM »
I have been thinking about the GZ tour and as I may be doing the Taupo to Napier leg myself which has no gas stations along it, I was wondering what sort of mileage I can expect from a 79 CB650 that is the one with the larger tank I believe. My fault I know for not doing some figures earlier but as "Blondie" only has been doing town/country runs I haven't had to bother much.
Anyone have figures for this model?
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

My Clymer manual states that the 79 held 4.8 U.S. gallons which is 18 litres to us Kiwis.
The 1980 650 dropped to 3.5 gallons or 13.5 litres.

My 79 uses 5.5 litres per 100 km, I usually fuel up every 200km but I could stretch it out if required, I have never gone onto reserve yet. :D

What speeds are we talking here? When my '79 was still stock, it'd get 47mpg at 70 mph and about 55mpg at 55 mph and 65mpg at 45 mph. These are U.S. gallons.

I have a 79 with about 26,000 miles, and I get about 45 mph with mostly city riding.

OK thanks guys, that helps me with my calcs, I also have to take into consideration all the Police stuff that causes drag like screen/siren/lights and panniers but I think I can do the distance I want on one tank. :)
