Triple Tree Question for old CB500/4
« on: May 06, 2006, 04:13:39 AM »
Will a triple tree from a CB 350 replace my cracked one from my CB500? The old Clymer Manual I have says everything but the carbs and engine internals are the same for CB350, CB500 and the CB550. Is this true for exhaust? How about seats? My manual was published in 1974 so I wonder how accurate this is for models after 1974. The reason I ask is there is more to choose from, especially on ebay, when shopping for parts.

I don't think so.

My lower triple tree had a busted steering lock lug and failed MOT (inspection) coz the bars were able to touch the tank.

I got a new (NOS) one fromk David Silver for £25! I was well chuffed!

In fact, the taper roller head bearings cost more than the triple tree.

Rather than eBay, try breakers yards for 500/4, or try El Cheapo - he always has loads of parts. He trades under the name Anubis Cycle.  PM him for info.

As far as the Clymer goes, the 350 and 400 were similar.  The 500 and 550 are similar.  The 350 and the 500 are not.

Yeah, the Clymer type manuals are good for things like specs and a few other helpful things
but, they can be misleading when they cover several different similar models. hen in doubt, ask The
Forum. Somebody should have the answer. As far as I know, the 500 and 550 are the same and
you can use the 750 but, you should use the complete triple tree on that one (Might want backup
info on that one but, I believe I'm right.)  Hope that helps. Later on, Bill

I believe that the CB450/CB500T, CB500/550 and the CB750s all have trees that will fit the same hole in the frame?
