hondabond in place of paper gaskets
« on: August 22, 2011, 06:32:19 PM »
Hello all. Can hondabond be used in place of the paper gaskets that go on the shifter cover? If not, can I use torn gaskets in addition to Hondabond? Does hondabond go on both sides of a gasket?

No, is the short answer.  I tried that and the shifter shaft bound up on the bushing in the housing.  The gasket is required for clearance.  Sealant on both sides of a used gasket, Yes.

There's a gasket on the shifter/sprocket cover? I've never seen one. There's no oil held in there -- it's open to the atmosphere at the back where the chain comes in and out. Unless I'm not understanding what's being asked?

I just replaced my gasket. Yeah, there is a gasket. I got mine from the local Honda shop. Pretty pricey for a lousy gasket though. I used sealant on both sides.

So, I guess I should note that I'm not a guru and I'm talking my 750 and I have no idea what bike you are talking about and if all SOHC/4 bikes are all the same.

The shifter and sprocket covers are seperate. The sprocket cover is open and doesn't require a gasket.

Actually there is oil that cycles through the shifted mechanism.

I'm talking about a 400f. Maybe different on others?
