Brake master cylinder recommendations
« on: August 22, 2011, 02:31:28 AM »
First up, massive apologies because I am sure this has been covered off before, I just couldn't find it in search.
To business,
I have a 74 CB750-4 and I've ditched my clip ons to a straighter set but my problem is now that the brake/master cylinder set up is too wide to fit with out touching the frame.

Can any one recommend and second hand setups that I could easily replace with my current one, instead of running east/west along the bar, maybe something that comes straight down.

Sorry if I sound like a total newbie when it comes to this, basically, it's because I am.

Oh, by the way, I also feel my starter has shat itself. Once in a while it just sounds like it's free spinning. Any thoughts on that?

Check around eBay for a master cylinder with the dimensions you need.  I have used dirt bikes, modern sport bikes, and 80's Honda units.  Single disc setups are common and a dual master can be used with a single disc.  As far as the starter, it sounds like the clutch is failing to engage.  This can be crud in the springs and rollers, or a slow turning starter.  An oil change with seafoam added is what the Goldwing guys use for the crud.  We are fortunate to be able to remove and clean the clutch without splitting the crankcase.  A cleaning and lube of the starter, with a known good battery will also help.

Just to clarify what king mentioned since you said your a newb.... the starter clutch is not to be confused with the clutch you use to shift. Starter clutch is on the left side of the engine under the stator cover.

lolol @brandEn - I'm a newb but I got that one but thank you.

Johnny, that link was to repair the master cylinder right? It works great, it's just with these new bars, it hits the forks now with the standard set up (you know how it runs along the length of the bar) I want something a bit smaller or a different design so I can keep these bars.
