Horizontal valve rocker slop
« on: August 22, 2011, 11:39:58 PM »
Hey all,

I just did my first valve clearance adjustment on my 77 CB550. I noticed that when the valves weren't touching the cam, there was a slight amount of horizontal wiggle in the arms. The amount varied by valve, which got me wondering...how much is too much? I would ballpark the amount I saw in the 1/16th of an inch range.

Also, has anyone else accidentally torn one of the Motion Pro feeler gauges? The .003 gauge had a distinct lip around its edge, causing me to be a little rougher with this than I should have been. :-\

Thanks.

these have a little sideways slack,no specs as such,do you have the locked rocker shafts?i take my feeler guages of the holder when i do these valves,a lip around the edge sounds like an inferiour product, maybe wet stone it out?i cut the round end off square and "sharpen"it for easier entry at the steep angle you have to work at.

Sliding side to side is no problem but "Rock" where the shaft moves is
