Hello Eric
This seems to me to what is known as a "monza" style fuel filler cap. These are still available from various sellers. Do a google and  you'll come right. Just be aware that they're available in various sizes (diameters) and should you find what nyou're looking for, make sure you alsdo get the neck that it fits on.

regards
Thomas

Thomas, I think the cap being talked about here if the factory made cap, not the mass produced Monza style.

Yes Mike, I think the petcock came from the CR250 moto crosser of the day.

OK, thanks.
What makes the petcock from the CR250 special? Does it flow more, or what?

From what I know and see form old pictures and books these taps/petcocks were used on several road-racing engines including the RC166/174 etc.
I don't know if they were used dirtbikes but its really no surprise if they did.

Paul McGhie supplied me with one of them, if you want to take a closer look here's mine: https://grabcad.com/library/honda-cr750-cb750r-petrol-tap-1

In terms of internal design (spring-loaded tapered plug with orifices) it is similar to that fitted to the CB400Four.

The tap that I mentioned that I was told came from the CR250 was only a single feed, as it would be if fitted to a single cylinder motor. I was told that that type of tap was used on the factory bikes, your guess is as good as mine.
Has anyone got any pics of the tap as fitted to the Daytona bikes ?

Aha, we appear to be back in business.
Well dear reader progress over the last 18 months has been rather slow as I've been waiting for parts or waiting for others to do jobs for me, but I'll not bore you to death with those details. The machining of the magnesium fork sliders is still to be completed, but at least the gun drilling has been done to accept the fork legs. The front fender was no easy item to make either due to the tight clearances.
The major leap forward has been the painting of the bike by Terry Chambers of Race Paint UK, spiffing chap! I've also procured another fuel tank from Asa Moyce in Northern Ireland to which I will be fitting that holy grail of CR750 parts a proper works style fuel cap. As of this morning the seat is in the hands of the upholstery dept. and when that is returned to me it will be time to see if the bike will start. Have your ear plugs ready.

Cheers for now

I was having a few problems myself Eric if you look at the date of your post in 2014, hahaha

Yes, the double feed tap can't have come from the Honda crosser unless the crosser had a carb with two feeds.  ;D ;D
Nice to see it progressing mate.

Smashingly beautiful! I heard a CR750 run at Daytona AHRMA races many years ago, there is nothing that sounds like that bike as it screams around the banking. I'd always stop what I was working on just to watch and hear the beast snarling through the infield section and exit onto the banking. The bike was painted in the Honda CR750 graphics but white overall instead of the factory color. The bike came out of Holland and was very well ridden, but the sound, the sound was unforgettable!

It's a cool cap. I remember one of the first races with my new tank & Monza cap. In a hard braking zone my helmet must have flipped the cap open and the gas splashing all over surprised the hell out of me. That one looks like that shouldn't happen as easily.

Great bike Eric
