Hi Régis

The tanks were made by Peter Kyte (Custom Tanks and Designs), Pershore, Worcestershire, England.  0044 (0) 1386 554136. He was significantly cheaper than anyone else, but be warned there is usually a long waiting list for his services. It was over a year in my case from placing the order to receiving the parts. However, he is honest enough to tell you approximately how long you will have to wait so you know where you stand and make the choice to either wait or take your custom elsewhere. He tells me that all the info he has on the design of the CR750 fuel tank and oil tank came from Kurt Liebmann.
As for the headstock, my frame remains standard in that respect. There are a couple of pictures of the in the Daytona CR thread as supplied by Ben, I'm sure he will not mind me repeating them here so you can see the difference between the standard frame and the race frame.

The standard frame - first pic below

and the race frame - second pic below

Note how the headstock on the race frame is much lower (by approx 25mm - KOS may confirm) as well as the positioning of the down tubes. The top spar is also at a shallower angle to the top tubes. Whether it is possible to convert a standard road bike frame to this specification I know not, but perchance there are some welding wizards out there who can. I would imagine that the whole of the original headstock would have to be removed and a new one fitted. Some of the chopper boys do that sort of thing so perchance it's possible, but would you trust it? It might be wise though to start from scratch and build a new frame. Anyone got any drawings? or better still an original frame to copy from? You will have read elsewhere in this thread that the race frame pictured above was sold to a gentleman in Italy. Well dear reader I have it on good authority that the buyer is having a copy made. It will be great to see how that project turns out.

Cheers
Eric

I'd heard Peter Keyte has retired Eric - not taking in any more work. Do you know if that's the case?

Hi Simon

No I wasn't aware that he may have retired.  Good job I got my tanks when I did.

Thanks Eric for these informations.
I'm buying parts to make my own CR750 streetlegal (as if HRC would make a replica for the road in the 60's...no fairing but the same engine, same mod's of the frame, with magnesium menani drum 250mm) since 2 years and it is the 1st time I see a fuel tank as I would have.
I will try to contact this week Peter to know if he is retired or not. Unfortunately, by phone my english is poor, like every french guy I think!
Your tank is very similar with the one I have mounted on my CR450 I have built few years ago
(I will post an image when I could!)
I hope really he isn't retired.... I were very sad...

For the mods of the frame, it is a real work. It is feasible but I think the need of 2 frames. I do not see how to do to extract the headstock without match tubes or the headstock....
Another part I think modified is the stamped part at the rear of the top spar, wich control the angulation of this. More pictures of this frame were be great!
As you supposed, building a new frame is maybe better.... The original tubes are like chewing-gum as I read!

What do you think about megaphones? Wich one you will install on it? I've seen at Coupes Moto Legende the "Mercier meg" : seems great with, for the inf ones, the double curvature to match with originals.
I have nothing against him, absolutely nothing but they seems to me really too expensive for the work :more than 2000€! (but I think always about them....)

A last question: Where did you find your tachometer and your magnesium bottom legs?

Thanks, great job, I spit....

A few more pics of the cross over gear change.

The left side

The right side

and a close up

The bearing is bolted to the engine plate and tucks neatly into the frame.

Wow that looks awesome. I can just picture myself hauling ass and hitting the rear brake instead of the shifter!

Hi folks
It's time to revive this particular thread. It's not dead, but only sleepth over the winter. Anyway with all the excitement of the Russ Collins AT&SF revival and the temperature in my garage or more to the point the lack of it, the CR project has taken a bit of a back seat. New goodies have arrived in the form of;
a replica oil cooler;
a JMR Stage 4 cylinder head

Nice man that Mr. Reick and a spiffing job as well.

One of the major jobs over the winter has been getting the oil tank in just the right place to give sufficient Clarence with the fuel tap when its in the open position. I think I had 4 attempts at all the brackets before I was happy with it. Other jobs have included the rear brake cable and its attachment to the frame on the left side. Paul McGhie kindly provided some photographs to work from.

Coming back to the oil tank for a moment, does anyone know of a source for the braided oil lines that Honda originally used as I need some to connect the up the oil cooler, oil tank and engine ?
I have all the necessary end fittings, I just need the braided pipe to go in between.

Another distraction over the winter has been a CB750 in the form of a K3 complete with JMR 1000cc cylinder block. I say K3 as that is the model of the frame whereas in fact it has bits from most of the other models in its make up. Perhaps it should be referred to as a K9 (canine) as it's somewhat of a mongrel.  ;D ;D ;D

Spring is here, the sun is out, things to do
Cheers for now

Braided oil lines - hey Eric, do you want the black cloth wrapped lines of old? In which case Mead Speed sell these normally with the cooler but you shoudl be able to convince them to sell a bit of oil line to you. Failing that try Autohoses in Stoke on trent. That'll get you the line and then you can send this to Earl's at Silverstone to getthe fittings swaged onto it....

Looking good...!

I've not been outside for fear of drowning so here are a few pics taken indoors to bring you up to date with progress.

Oil cooler now fitted along with the connecting pipes. New oil pressure gauge with the correct mount.

The engine has been out of the frame and the Mike Rieck cylinder head fiited, but before it went on the exhaust ports were opened up to take the exhaust pipes. Yes folks we have exhausts at long last.

I'm still waiting waiting for a magneto to fit behind the M3 Racing cover, but meanwhile I though I might try one of those self generating ignition systems from Electrex World.

Update 19th January 2023
An original magneto has been impossible to find, so the Electrex World system is still in operation and it works very well.

More piccies including the shaving of the fins in various stages

and while I've been waiting for parts (as usual) K9 is now just about complete apart from the wiring.

If anybody is interested the exhaust is one of Steve Carpenter's efforts.
