Time to revive this thread again, it's not dead only hibernating through the winter. Its been a long cold winter and it's not over yet judging by the snow outside, so progress has been (very) slow. However, I finally got the exhaust pipes sorted - had a few problems with brackets and had to have a small piece welded in so the brackets would reach the foot rest hanger and exhaust pipes clear the frame. This can be seen in one of the pics below. Pipe No. 1 was the worst as that also touched the front down tube on the frame as well. Plenty of heat,  an old fork tube stuffed into the header and some brute force cured that one. It must be said though that the pipe only needed a very minor tweak to get the necessary clearance.
So here are the latest pics for your perusal.

Still a few things to do. The ignition is only a temporary affair. The chain adjusters are to be replaced with replica items - a bit like the Kawasaki Z900 items with three holes in them and then there is the Monza fuel cap to replace. When that last item is done (still waiting for a replica CR750 version to be made) I can get the bike it painted.

Cheers
Eric

That's a good looker Eric.

It always scares the hell out of me with that mag side exposed, it doesn't take much of a no-no to make a big boo-boo.

Don't mind me...it's a good looker Eric!

Paul McGhie has his fingers in that particular pie. I don't know who the actual manufacturer is as Paul keeps that kind of info strictly to himself. Can't blame him really as he is trying to sell CR replica parts.

very nice work eric!

i think the CNC'd left cover looks too modern (could be simply blasted to make it look older ;) ), but other than that, a joy to the eyes.

That is the million dollar question, but are these things ever finished? I'm sure something will turn up. There is K9 to finish off as well. I'm just starting to get the paperwork sorted out to get a licence plate for it. You would think that the government would make it nice an easy so they could steal yet more money from you, but no. There is only the wiring to do now on that bike, but I'm leaving that to the professionals to check all the electrical components and replace the wiring loom, all of which are at least 35 years old.

How old are the KR124/KR164s Eric? As far as I'm aware the KR164 hasn't been made for a couple of years now and both were replaced last year by the KR145 in three different compounds. Just saying so you take care when running the bike for the first time. The old KR164 I had went like a block of wood within 12 months, they don't last well. The KR145s seem a lot better...

What ho Simon
You're spot on ol' bean, the tyres are at least 2 years old and they're not as soft as when I got them. The cold weather doesn't help either and I hadn't figured on the plot taking as long as it has.  Thanks for the tip on the KR145s, chances are though with the current rate of progress by the time the bike is ready Mr. Dunlop will have developed something else.

You have a very nice ambition to build envious bikes for this audience.  I especially like the alloy tank.........too bad you have to paint it ;)

Most of what I know about the CR750s has been gleaned from builders like you and others on this site.  One question.......will there be a steering stabilizer (dampener) on the left?  If so, I may have a period-correct spare........taken from a CL77.  No guarantee that it will actually work........but it will look good 8) 8) 8)

Hi Dennis
That's a mighty fine offer of a steering damper and it's people like yourself that make this site the pleasurable experience that it is.
However, I do have a steering damper for the bike like the one you refer to

They appear to be hard to find in good working condition (2 on eBay right now). The one I have, although bought as NOS, it was still a bit jerky in operation. I've had it refurbished and it's much better, not up to modern standards, but it does look the part.

Thanks
Eric

Sweet build.

I have a question about the windscreen.  On some bikes I see the windscreen mounted on the outside of the fairing.  On others, I see the windscreen mounted on the inside of the fairing.  Which way is the most authentic for a CR750 replica?

Looks like the inside to me F, not the clearest of photographs though.
