Try clip position first.  But I have 0 experience tuning pods.

I like my stock airbox and filter.  Tuning was a snap and I can do a ton any day.

I think you have no simple answer coming to you that would be relevant. There are numerous pod threads. I would suggest you read them. Some have had success and they share what they did. If you  emulate success rather than peoples opinion, you will probably be better off. Do the research and it will pay off for you. 63 mph is fairly dismal.

Dang bud I thought you had your bike running well with the help of your neigbors? Why dont you look into buying an OEM air filter and box... 63 as a top speed isnt good...... Already got mine to 90 and the carbs are still iffy..

Yes it won't go over 63. It just kinda tops out. dont the main jets control top speeds? To me it would seem more gas?

Do a plug chop at 63 MPH.  Let the spark plug deposits show you combustion conditions at the problem speed.

A stock Cb550 does the standing 1/4 mile in 14.02 seconds with a speed of 91.83 MPH.  Top speed is 98.77 MPH at about 22 seconds.
This is with a 6-7 MPH head wind.

Yes mains, but if you are already at 110's, you have got to find out what else is going on.  You should be ripping up to 100mph, even with pods.   I am running a 4-1 105's and a stock airbox with uni filter and I can do 100 all day.

One thing I wanted to check also was venting. Im using a harley tank and thought maybe it wasnt vented. I believe it is ventes. Heres a pic of the cap:

I test ran today and found that when shifting between 7k and 8k I was able to get to 70 in 6-7 seconds. This was going through into 4th gear. Was afraid to go faster because of suicidal winds today i southern mn.

As always, thanks!

Pods: Too much air into the cylinders. Changing needle positions by raising the needle or lowering the clip position will introduce more gas. BUT since you changed your mains and your top speed is so affected you might have something else going on. Check you plugs to see.

BTW spell check works wonders!  8)

Check the chart below to firgure out what carb system is most affected.

Choke doesn't really choke air much at all (although it will disrupt air flow especially if fully choked).  It really just pulls more gas due to pressure differential.  If the amount of gas being pulled is maxed out, then choking will have no/minimal effect.  I suppose at WOT full choke would significantly decrease airflow, but other than that it wont affect as much as you would think.

I would definitely attempt a needle position change to allow more gas at 1/2-3/4 throttle.  If that doesn't help, change main jets to 115-120.

When trying to go past 63 are you WOT?  I assume you are.  Does it buck are surge or just loose oomph and keep steady at 63?

Going back to what TT said
Quote
Do a plug chop at 63 MPH.  Let the spark plug deposits show you combustion conditions at the problem speed.

Have you pulled the plugs and looked at them.  Guessing doesn't make any sense unless you know whether its rich or lean

I would warm the bike up, pull the plugs clean them thoroughly and replace them with new, get the bike up to top speed asap. pull over. pull the plugs out and have a look.  Replace, head home and adjust.
