KO tappet tapping

my KO number 2  intake is tapping the tappet cover.... i thought maybe the lock nut got loose and was riding up... however it wasnt i checked it and it was still holding proper clearance but is tapping(set at 3 thou)... any ideas whats wrong here?

a cracked valve spring will make that noise too.

The problem with old CB750's is that you can slide a feeler gauge betwixt valve and rocker and the clearance might look correct, but if the hard facing on the rocker or the valve is pitted or otherwise damaged, you could well have a real clearance of 3 or 4 times the reading that you're getting from your gauge.

It could be a buggared spring too, (it may have just lost tension after sitting compressed for many years) but if you've done the adjustment correctly (and a lot of folks don't) then the only way to properly diagnose it is to pull the engine. Cheers, Terry.  ;D

its hitting the inside of the cover its got marks.... the clearance is correct and the bolt is uniform with the others... not showing more threads than the rest

the amount of turns relative to the others is meaningless. slack that rocker and try to spin the spring. if it spins easily, it's shot.
