My new to me 400f!
« on: August 25, 2011, 08:06:08 PM »
Just got this little '75 400f delivered to me today.

Total different personality than my 550...it's an absolute blast to ride! Can't wait to put some more miles on this thing...

Sweet bike dude! Those things are sooooo much fun to ride. Don't be afraid to redline it, that's where the powers at.
So much to do, so little time.

Thanks guys. I made a post a little while back looking for some advice on the 400f vs. my 550...I have another 400f, but I still haven't ridden it, as I'm still in a bit of a parts collecting phase...

Anyway, from what I heard, it sounded as though I might be a little disappointed in the lack of power....I only put about 15 miles on this bike tonight, and never got it out of 4th gear riding through Winnipeg, but I'm VERY impressed with it's power. It flies! I'm still getting used to it, so I'm afraid to push it too far at the moment, but it's a powerful little bike.

Great great bike and no lack of power -- especially up above 6500 RPM. Congrats and enjoy your lower insurance premiums.

Those 400Fs are a blast.  I don't know why anyone derides them for not having enough power either.  There is more than enough on tap to do what you need.

Congrats, and beautiful bike!

From what I can tell so far, it doesnt have the torque my 550 did, but as someone said above, the bike really jumps in the higher rpms. It revs much quicker, and with 6 speeds it accelerates quick! It probably helps that I'm pretty light at 160 lbs...

So I've been able to squeeze in a few rides since I got the bike Thursday, and have slowly been getting a little more used to it, so I can push it a little further...

I must say I'm completely shocked at the performance of this bike....this little thing flat out flies, and is so much more nimble than my 550. Perhaps I just expected much less from it...

I was really sad to see my 550 go...in fact, I darn near shed a tear or two when the guy pulled away....after riding this little thing though, I've almost forgotten it.  :D

Nice 400F four, I've always liked that model. Never had one but a friend let me ride his once. Smooth and quick bike and that four sound is pure music. Enjoy it. They seem to be more and more rare in nice condition. If you don't mind? What did you pay for it?

Thanks.

In my mind, I picked the bike up for a very reasonable price at $1,000. Only thing that doesn't work is the starter button, and the left turn signal doesn't seem to flash all the time (bad ground?). It kicks over on the first kick, so I'm not overly worried about the starter button for now.
