750 exhaust confusion
« on: August 25, 2011, 06:16:13 PM »
I have a K3 and I'm looking at exhaust options.  From parts fische, I can tell there are differences between the K3 and later (K8 specifically) where the headers connect to the cylinder head.  The exhaust currently on the bike doesn't have the K3 exhaust collars as there should be a hex bolt in the bottom of the collars.  In short, what are my exhaust options with this?  Is the hardware that mounts the header pipes to the cylinder head interchangeable?

*edit.  Ah, I screwed that up.  Corrected K8 exhaust fische photo....*

Is that a K3 engine mate? I only ask because it looks like it's been painted black. Anyway, someone has fitted an exhaust system designed for a later model CB750 to your bike, using mounting hardware from a later (probably K7/8 or F) model bike.

You can easily return it to stock, using the parts listed in your parts manual. I've fitted later model exhausts to earlier engines and vice versa, with no problems, just by changing the mounting hardware. Cheers, Terry.  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Terry, yes it's a K3 with a multitude of "PO induced" modifications.  I'm getting it (mostly) back to a stock look.  The engine is going to come out to remove the paint.  At least the frame rails aren't cut...

Something 1972 IIRC.  I'll have to look when I go home...

It's 11/72.  How do I tell the difference in the heads?
