How to reduce/eliminate arching at coil connections?
« on: August 26, 2011, 08:41:22 AM »
I'm still having trouble getting my K7 to run well :(

I've had the cerbs appart and they're clean, float levels correct and slides synched etc. Just had the tank off and been checking volts at the coils. When checking sparks at the plugs there is some arching between the spade terminals of the Bk/Wh wires and earth. The connectors are a tight fit, but the sparks still fly!
Will this arching mean the spark at the plugs will be weaker, and how  the hell can I eliminate it???

The coils are new

Thanks

Steve

Are the bullets at the coil BK/WH wire insulated? There should not be any arching there. Make sure they are tight and INSULATED and yes if they are arching it will effect spark at the plugs.

I believe bad condensors will do that.  I do know they allow points to arc/burn and causes erratic engine firing.

The coils are new replacements, but not original Honda parts. They have spade connectors and the feed wires have plastic boots on them. The fit good and tight, but the sparking continues on both coils. I'm wondering if they have the correct internal resistance even though they were listed as suitable for the bike.
My multimeter has ohm ranges from 200 Megohms to 200 ohms, and on the 200 setting the resistence is 1.9  :-\

Forgot to mention the bike has electronic ignition.
