speedo wrong
« on: August 26, 2011, 09:01:46 AM »
The speedometer on my 77F is not reading correctly.  It tells me i am going faster than i actually am according to my GPS.  Its off by about 8-10 mph @ 60 mph, so it tells me i'm going around 68-70.  The speedo works off the front wheel, so the only thing i can think of that would affect it would be if the front tire size were smaller than stock.  According to the book a 3.25-19 is stock size, and i have a 100/90-19 dunlop, which is supposed to be the same size.  any ideas as to the problem?

thanks

I think most peoples speedos are off by about that amount. When I refaced my speedo I moved the needle back a bit when I reinstalled it and its pretty accurate but not perfect according to my GPS.

Off by 8-10 miles per hour is a lot. Most are off by 2-3. You might need to look at other causes or contributing factors.

Damn ... that means I wasn't "really" doing 125mph then ?    :(

Are you sure the speedometer is original equipment?  Not a replacement maybe?  Might be a slightly different ratio.

My 78F is off by about 10mph at highway speed...I just live with it.

My K2 and K4 are off by about 4 - 5 mph up to 100 mph according to the GPS and even then only above 60 mph. Much better accuracy than on my Vstrom which is way off at higher speeds reading faster than it actually is.
