cb550 carb problems
« on: August 26, 2011, 09:45:35 AM »
I know this has been beat into the ground before and I have read for what seems to be hours on here. but still really havent found an answer.

first off, we have a 76 cb 550 with the 087a carbs, key hole type, aftermarket air box, and 2-1 turn out baffled pipes.

we have a good color on the plugs as in a plug chop. 120 mains, but still has big loss of power at about 55-60 mph. We have the needle clips in the middle slot. great compression, the valves are set, timing is set, new points and condencers, points gaped right, coils are stock but good, new plugs, Like I said I have been reading for what seems hours...........lol

but it still falls out about 55-60 mph. and that is top speed right now.

Also carbs have been cleaned several several times.

Now I mostly work with the early sohc cb750 not the 550 but there should be some basic steps that are the same.

Again I know this has been beat into the ground on here but could some one please help or point the direction to the post or where ever??

thanks

Did you do the plug chop in the speed and throttle range where the running problem happens?
