Tank Color
« on: May 06, 2006, 08:23:54 pm »
I have two spare tanks for the 400F.  One is that NOS Light Ruby Red that I posted about a while ago.  The other one is a snotter that I am having restored to be a factory Canary Yellow tank so that I have one each of the colors offered for my model year ('76).  However, I am torn on what color to paint the tank on the bike after I get the dent pulled.

Should I do it in the factory Varnish Blue, which was a '75 color, and while not correct, DOES look good?  Perhaps Black, so that with the black frame and sidecovers, I would get that "black bomber" look.  Maybe silver or polished aluminum-look, for the '50s Cafe racer idiom.

I want some different colors so that I can change them depending on my mood.  I'll already have the blonde and redhead, so I'm leaning toward the brunette.

Thoughts?

OK, if you're going to put "other", then post in the thread what you think "other" should be.  I'm trying to solicit ideas and input.

Proteal, I'm leaning toward Black myself.

I'm going black. While silver is cool, and would be a close second to me, nothing screams cool like an all black bike.

I have to say silver, of course, because that's the colour Silver Sophie was when I got her. And very tasteful she looks too!

Black looks good, absolutely, but I have an aversion to having to clean the bike all the time...

While in the process of my cafe' project, I debated keeping it black.  But, at our local bike night I counted 22 black bikes.  I decided on silver and it really makes the bike stand out among the crowd.  I took it to bike night after the respray and people passed by the black hogs to see the unique silver cafe'.  Some guys were surprised to discover that my paint is HD platinum denim.  My vote is on silver.

i'm in black for the time being, but let me just say one thing...

after standing next to jsaab's restored K4 (5 ?) i completely understand for the first time what a beautifully restored, all original bike can do to a guy...

the rest of us are hanging on by our toenails...

Thanks John!  I think all the colors listed are good choices as they are all somewhat "understated", and brought out by the rest of the bike, and vice-versa

GG, I like black bikes but there seems to be plenty of them. So, how about the Black Pearl color? I don't see it anymore but it was once a very popular color with the Harley chopper crowd back in the 70's. It has an air of mystery and just interesting enough to stand out among the regular black bikes.

Almost forgot ... ;)

This link will give you an idea of what Black Pearl looks like, you can see the subtle difference as compared to regular basic black.
