cb750 oil pump
« on: August 27, 2011, 07:30:03 AM »
Hi Guys,
Anyone out there refurbishing oil pumps or supplying pump upgrade kits or exchanges?
Mine works but has eaten some shrapnel at some time and given the rest of the work gone into this rebuild I wanna have total confidence in this part.
Thanks.

None that i know of. This is a recurring thread, every 6 months or so someone brings it up. You can replace the rubber ORings. Restores pressure.

But what we all want is new rotors and popoff valve springs and that's not happening.

I found one on ebay, supposedly from a 7500 miles bike for $35! Cracked it open and it looked like a new one.

Fact is they are way overbuilt and with new rubber, probably perform as well as necessary with or without scratches in the rotors.

Hope to read comments from others. Soemday there will be a rebuild regime.

There's a guy in Thailand that has some parts. Search EBay for him. I purchased a new spring and rubberpiece. He also has the plunger, caps and some other pieces. You can get the 3 orings from Honda and the shaft seal also. They are not broken down for any of the 750's but are listed as Gold Wing parts. I have a post somewhere on here with part numbers for those. Mine is installed but the engine is not together. Hope that helps. ps - that shaft seal is a #$%* to deal with without damaging the aluminum around it! It has a metal backing that is pressed in place.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I just built 1 good pump out of 3 pumps. You can easily get the 46 X 2 orings....I have a bunch. I took a 3" long 1/8 ball bit in my porting tool to grind 2 small pockets right behind that seal. The pockets are opposite each other. At that point you can insert a narrow punch in there and tap it out. Very easy. the 2 pockets will not affect the gear shaft at all.
The reason for 3 pumps was to get 2 sets of good rotors especially the main rotors. I still had to dress them as well as the pump covers.
