Need rotor and stator dimensions CB650
« on: August 27, 2011, 11:28:20 AM »
Hey guys. I'm new around here but I purchased a 79 CB650 a little while back. Well I'm in Afghanistan now working and I'm trying to gather parts so I can start my build when I come home on vacation. I know the electrical systems are weak anyhow but I'm planning an EFI conversion as well so I'm looking at charging systems from other bikes. What I need is the rotor dimensions and the stator dimensions such as inside diameter, outside diameter, and thickness. I can't measure mine since its still back home. If anyone could help me I would appreciate it. Thanks and I'm looking forward to spending more time on the forum. Lots of great info here.

Somebody out there has to have a CB650 stator laying around or a cover at least. If I could at least get the stator dimensions as in width and diameter then I will know if I can adapt the Harley part or not.

If You can't fix it with a hammer, You've got an electrical problem.

Thanks Mick, I will PM him. I just got the dimension on the Harley 38 amp rotor and stator which I can buy new for $120. That should be plenty of juice for EFI but I have no idea what the stock dimension are. And thanks for the link to his thread. Awesome build. His info and Soos' are what I'm using for my stroker build if I don't run out of cash first lol.

crank end taper     24mm-18.3mm
         taper length  34.5mm

stator internal diameter  94.5mm-95mm   this is a near approx my internal calipers wern't long enough to get an accurate measurement.

Scunny,

Thanks a lot. That's exactly what I needed. Only one thing missing is the stator outer diameter. However it looks like the regular Harley stuff might be a little large so I guess I'm still looking.

I'll get the outer tomorrow after work. Have to ask tho, what do you want to run that requires more output ?

I'm planning on going to EFI so I need to be able to run the computer, the fuel pump, and of course the lighting. With the poor 650 charging system I would rather find a higher ouput system so that I'm not maxing it out.  I originally wanted to use Harley parts because they are abundant and cheap but it looks like that's not going to work although I might be able to use the V-ROD parts but I'm still working on getting those measurements. My plans were to use a stock 650 rotor and machine it down to function as a hub for the rotor from whatever bike I will use. Then fit the stator into the cover and use a solid state rec/reg. Like I said I'm just throwing ideas around and trying to get dimensions so I know which way I want to go when I get home. I only have 30 days vacation so having the parts there when I hit the ground saves valuable time. Thank you tons for your help.
