carb o-rings
« on: May 03, 2005, 05:25:04 AM »
I'm looking for a source for the o-rings that need to be replaced during a carb restoration.
metal parts are in good condition, but I know that the 34 year-old rings have shrunk or hardned. I'm just trying to keep from paying $70 + for kits that I'll probably only use the o-rings out of anyway. a FAQ or greenspun archive link spoke of a 750 rebuilder who found some air conditioner o-rings that were used, but I wonder about their longevity since they weren't designed to be exposed to fuel.

any suggestions would help,

Contact Robert Barr.  He is at  http://www.cycleorings.com  I got a set for $12.00 from him for my CV carbs.  I know he also has some sets for VM carbs but I don't know if he has exactly the set you need.  If he doesn't he may be interested in using your carbs to make up a set. You would get the set you need then he could start selling sets to others based off of the ones used for yours.

advance auto parts (and, I'm assuming other major chains) has a selection of metric o-rings starting at 4mm, and standards beginning at 1/8th.

At some auto parts stores I've seen variety packs of o-rings made from Viton. Viton will stand up to almost any chemical.
