More 550 chain questions...
« on: March 28, 2007, 03:18:20 pm »
I know I can't use a 530 O-ring or X-ring on my CB550 without trashing my engine case.  Z1 didn't list a standard chain, so I sent him an inquiry.  The answer is that RK (the chain manufacturer) produces two non-O/X-ring chains; standard duty & heavy duty.  I'm looking into the dimensions to see if both will fit.  However, I’m assuming the whopping 50 hp Honda claimed back in ’75 has degraded somewhat by now; and my guess is that any modern 530 chain will be overkill.  Besides power transfer capacity (and assuming it fits…), what advantage would there be using the heavy-duty vs. standard duty?  Longer life?  Longer adjustment interval?

Here's the dimensions of the chain on my bike, a standard-duty 530 I think.  I'm looking for the RK chain dimensions...

Don't have the numbers you're looking for. If your sprockets are questionable, ever consider switching to a 520? Gives you the o'ring and less maintenance.

I found a dimension sheet, but I can't figure out which is their standard-duty 530 vs. heavy-duty 530.  I've read quite a bit on the 530 vs O-ring 520 idea, and have generally decided to stick with the 530.  I actually bought a can of PJ1 and have gotten into the habit of parking in the street at the end of each day and giving it a quick squirt.  Now if I can just get in the habit of adjusting it more than once a season.  :o
