In Defense of the 73-76 CB750K--------
« on: August 28, 2011, 07:28:58 PM »
I have said they have less 'power'.Not as good as the 71.Blah Blah BAA- But I just got back from another trusty ride on my 74,Nice and cool here ,perfect night for a ride and the bike was so smooth between my comfort zone at between 2500-4000 and then so willing to hit the red in any gear I was in when I twisted that majic stick with my right hand. The Honda 750 is a great bike when it is running as it was designed to no matter what the year,Yes the early bikes are a litte revier and sound throatier.I have a few of each year, but any good running 750,and yes even the later ones are a great machine when all systems are dialed in and working in good order. So here is to are brothers who have the 73-76 K's in perfect running order to tell their tales. If there not there first they will be right there on your Arse  ;D ;)

In defense of..?
Heck, they were the smoothest and 'slickest' of the Big Fours. They had better paint (well, maybe not now, if they have been sitting outside...), better quality chrome (as witnessed by their generally better condition today), better frame welds and drains, better electrical connectors throughout, quieter, and shifted more assuredly, especially into Neutral on a hot day. And, they get better MPG than the earlier "K" models, and foul sparkplugs far less, no small consideration, even today. They have better fork damping than the K0-K2 (stock), the front disc pads stopped better in the rain than the early ones (and did not squeak), and the disc has the little rain hat to help keep the 2 center pipes cleaner in the wet.

It's not always about the extra few extra HP...  :D

I have no doubt I'd be perfectly happy with any of the later model 750 bikes, and I hope there are at least one or two of them in my future,  but there's no way I would ever trade my K1 for one of them! :)

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

+1 on all this...I compare my K4 with my K2 and definitely the above is true. However I wouldnt give up my K2 either especially as its now an 810!

But...the K4 has been around......

Agreed...sure my KO & K1 sound great and have more power, but I get just as many "thumbs up" riding the sunflake orange K4. Everytime I get off the K4 I say how good a running bike it is. Still has the OEM paint on the tank too. A bit faded on the top, but still OEM which is way cool. I would not part with my K4 as it is so much fun to ride...and is easier on the ears with the HM341's.  ;D

As I do not have anything to compare it to, my k4 is the only bike I have.

I can attest to the number of folks that tell me, "I used to have one of those" or "I always wanted one of those".

It seems the Orange K4s strike a chord with folks... At least it does with me.

Nice pics, my original K4 was the same color, great memories.

My current (former basket case) is a 74 frame, with a 69-70 engine.  Might I have the best of both worlds by accident?

I think the K5 I have is quite spunky!
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Well ya know Terry's eyesight is not that good so that may explain it.  I always thought of the 750K  as the Rosie O'Donnell of the classic bike world.  Fat and chunky.  ;D Maybe he has a thing for Rosie. ;) Give me an F any day.  :)

Fat? Chunky? Surely you jest mate? The '69 to '76 K's were the hotrod's, and the rest were either poorly conceived attempts at producing a slab sided "Super Sports" model, which bombed so bad in the showroom that Honda had to get all nostalgic and re-introduce a "retro" K bike to keep big Honda's in the showroom until they could release the (godawful) DOHC bikes. Bloody hell, the F2 weighed 40 pounds more than the K0! ;D

This whole thread is about an a$$hole.....er...I mean opinion!!! EVERYONE HAS ONE!!!!!!! I say lets put it to a poll..............So far Terry and I are in total agreement that the F bikes are fugly and Honda gave up building the SOHC 750 in 1976!!! Don't git yer feathers ruffled!!!!! Chill out Francis!!!! It's just an opinion. If anyone is childish enough to get pissy about our opinion.....tough sh!t. If you like the F model....awesome!!! ROCK IT!!!! ..... I'll still ride with you (or any bike) but don't try ramming it down my throat that an F model is superior!!! If someone starts a poll....put me down for the K model 76' and down. Thanks for sharing ....have a nice day... ;D

Yours looks pretty good Terry.  I guess I should have said "stock".  It's that stock 4 into 4 exhaust that gives them the fat look IMO. ;D  A 4 into 1 will improve the looks of any K bike.  Then put an F tank and tailpiece and then your there. ;D

One thing you can't argue though...... that "FAT" look is damn awesome from the back. A stock F pipe is just sad and wrong!!!!!

Well not being one to cast dispaaging remarks about another Man's Woman or Bike. I shall let the images speak for themselves:

A kind of quaint looking vehicle. Looks a bit like a Tokyo streetcar.

Now as you can see the muscular looking K8, with the wide shouldered chap and the long legged blonde who cannot wait to lick that apple and throw a leg over:
