78 750 f2 headlight
« on: May 06, 2006, 05:47:11 PM »
I am the proud owner of a '78 750F2.   I just traded my dohc custom for my new bike.  The CB 750F2 had a windjammer, front wind shield, and faring.  I want to restore the bike to original condition, but after removing the windjammer I now need front directionals and headlight assembly.   I am wondering if I can use older headlight assemblies off older k-models. I would really appreciate any feedback and pictures  of how the headlight assemblies mount to the forks.

NOLAN78F - check out the parts diagrams at crotchrocket.com   I think your headlight and directionals might be specific to your bike and year but you can verify that  with a little digging on that site also.

thanks for the reply! it seems that when the windshield was put on, the headlight mounts off the forks were removed and i can not clearly see how i can replace it from that site.

the 77-78 F's are the only one that used the ears that slant up like that. I dont think it will clear the disc brake proportioning valve up front if you use the other model's that dont angle up so much.

The triple tree clamps for the fork tubes are loosened, and the fork tubes are withdrawn from the trees.  The upper fork covers are then put in place (along with the rubber isolation grommets) between the upper and lower trees, and the fork tubes reinstalled.

On the 78 F model the headlight shell has two openings in the back to allow all the wiring to route into the "rats nest" behind the headlight. Earlier model bikes(76 and under?) have only one opening, I think, as some of the electrics route into a box on the front of the frame. I'm sure the 78 750A headlight will fit but I'd make sure it has two openings in back or your wiring will be quite cramped.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame
